About our role: 


Our Global Product Development team are responsible for evaluating product development proposals, preparing detailed project charters and plans to deliver new products that meet market needs.  Product Development projects range from relatively simple design alterations to provide customised solutions to research and development of novel products supported by new technologies, systems and processes.  


We are looking for a Product Development Technologist to join our experienced team in South Carolina.


Using our in-house project management software, you will be responsible for taking customer requests/market needs from concept through to launch. To do this, you will:


  • Prepare charters that clearly define the project scope, success criteria and approach
  • Develop project plans including resource requirements and work with commercial teams to manage customer expectations 
  • Design a product meets both the customer needs and internal manufacturing and quality performance targets.
  • Record and analyse experimental observations/data
  • Qualitative and quantitative assessment of new products, internally and externally
  • Provide experimental updates during meetings and present results formally (verbal and written)
  • Evaluate prototype casings in the product application test laboratory to ensure that these are suitable for use by the intended customers
  • Participating in product trials at customer facilities
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Manufacturing during the introduction phase of new products through to semi-commercial production, including the creation of standard operating procedures and bill of materials.


The role of Product Development Technologist is essential in helping achieve our ambition of being our customers preferred partner for collagen casings and gel.

About you:


Due to the technical nature of the role, you will be qualified to a minimum of degree level in a relevant field, such as: physical / biological / food / applied science and technology or engineering discipline.   Specialist knowledge of collagen / protein chemistry or meat processing would be a distinct advantage.  


Further to academic qualifications, you will have demonstrable experience of product development within a food processing or manufacturing environment with comparable responsibilities to those outlined above. In this role you will have demonstrated effective project management skills and discipline; furthermore, you will be comfortable using technology and bespoke software to deliver on time and to budget.


You will bring with you excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.  Analytical by nature, you will have strong problem solving abilities, with a track record of collaboration, innovation and creativity.  That said, you will have the depth of character and cultural awareness to challenge the status quo as required.


Due to the global nature of the role you will be expected to be flexible with your time and standard duties, including occasional travel.  A full driver’s licence is required.
