Share Fraud Warning to Shareholders

We, like many companies, have become aware that some shareholders have received unsolicited phone calls or correspondence concerning investment matters. These are typically from overseas based ‘brokers’ who offer to buy or sell shares in a way that they say will give investors a huge return. These might sound like great deals but are most frequently scams which result in victims being left out of pocket - The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has reported that the average amount lost by investors is around £20,000 and that even seasoned investors have been caught out.

Fraudsters can be very persistent and extremely persuasive but always REMEMBER: if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is! The FCA publishes information and a list of practical steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim yourself: Steps To Protect Yourself Against Share Fraud. And if you are concerned that you may already have paid money to share fraudsters, you should contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
