About the role
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for influencing, promoting and advancing the site safety culture and performance. You will review, develop, implement and monitor the Health and Safety management systems to ensure the safety of our colleagues, visitors and contractors are in line with current Health and Safety legislation within the manufacturing facility in Devro Inc.
With your confident and enthusiastic approach, you will be expected to provide the on-site technical competence in delivering the health and safety programme and liaising with enforcing authorities.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate improvement on all leading and lagging indicators on Safety (with the key safety objectives targets being above 85% and the safety index score below 1)
- Adherence to the Health and Safety, PSM and training plans above 90%
- Demonstrate improvement on injury rates on site year on year to create a zero-accident culture in Devro
- Promote a culture of change on Health and Safety and show evidence of achieving zero incidents
- Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming Health and Safety legislation and ensure that Devro has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance
- Ensure compliance with, and implementation of, all policies and procedures that impact on the delivery of effective Health and Safety systems
- Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting/implementing an effective behavioural safety programme, regular health and safety audits and inspections and monitoring that safety actions are being completed within agreed timescales
- Ensure that rigorous risk assessment and accident management systems are in place to enable departments to undertake risk assessment processes to identify hazards and ensure that appropriate control measures are in place. You will receive and investigate reports of incidents, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls
- Liaise with Occupational Health Service staff on health surveillance where a risk assessment has identified a need. You will maintain appropriate records and ensure all workplace occupational hygiene programmes are implemented and maintained
- Provide staff with comprehensive and relevant information and training on Health and Safety systems and procedures, including advising on the purchase of equipment and workplace practices
About you
- Qualified to degree level in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent is essential
- Chartered Safety professional (or working towards) would be desirable
- Ability to interpret and apply national health and safety legislation and policy
- Extensive experience within health and safety management is required
- Experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably within a food/drink or chemicals industry is essential for this role
- Excellent communication skills (verbally and in writing)
- Excellent stakeholder management experience at all levels with great influencing skills within the organisation and with external safety bodies
- Highly organised with document control and management to ensure appropriate records are maintained in compliance with legal requirements
- A proven track record of implementing and maintaining an organisational safety culture and performance
