About the role:
We now have an opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager to join our Health and Safety Department. The purpose of this role is to review, develop, implement and monitor the Health and Safety management systems, to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and contractors, in line with current Health and Safety and associated legislation with the manufacturing facility in Devro Scotland, the Plc offices (Glasgow & London) and Devro BV.
You will provide the on-site technical competence in delivering the health and safety programme and liaise with enforcing authorities. You will also promote a culture of change on Health & Safety and show evidence of achieving zero incidents. You will monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming Health and Safety legislation and ensure that Devro has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance.
Ensuring compliance with, and implementation of all policies and procedures that impact on the delivery of effective Health and Safety systems will be required. You will work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting implementation of an effective behavioural safety programme, regular audits and monitoring that safety actions are being implemented within agreed timescales.
You will ensure that rigorous risk assessment and accident management systems are in place to enable departments to undertake risk assessment processes to identify hazards and to ensure that appropriate control measures are in place. To receive and investigate reports of incidents, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls. You will be required to liaise with Occupational Health Service staff on health surveillance where a risk assessment has identified a need and you will also prepare and coordinate health and safety audits, behavioural safety audits and safety inspections to ensure compliance.
The ideal candidate will be qualified to degree level in Occupational Safety and be a Chartered Safety professional (or working towards). You will have a minimum of five years experience of managing Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment and preferably have experience of Chemical Management ergonomics.
You must be a strong communicator with good verbal and written skills and have solid influencing skills within the organisation and with external safety bodies.
