About the role:

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for development, implementation and monitoring of the Health and Safety management systems, to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and contractors for Devro BV locations.

You will provide the on-site technical competence in delivering the health and safety programme and liaise with enforcing authorities and work closely to the Moodiesburn Health & Safety department.

  • Support the development of a generative culture in the field of Health & Safety leading to an improvement in Leading and Lagging Indicators.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming Health and Safety legislation and ensure that Devro has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance. Ensure compliance with, and implementation of all policies and procedures that impact on the delivery of effective Health and Safety systems.
  • Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting implementation of an effective behavioural safety programme, regular audits and monitoring that safety actions are being implemented within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure that rigorous risk assessment and accident management systems are in place to enable departments to undertake risk assessment processes to identify hazards and to ensure that appropriate control measures are in place. To receive and investigate reports of incidents, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls.
  • Liaise with Occupational Health Service staff on health surveillance where a risk assessment has identified a need. Maintain appropriate records. Ensure all workplace occupational hygiene programmes and implemented and maintained.
  • Provide staff with comprehensive and relevant information and training on Health and Safety systems and procedures, including advising on equipment purchase and workplace practices.
  • Prepare and coordinate health and safety audits, behavioural safety audits and safety inspections to ensure compliance.

About you:

Experience: A minimum of five to ten years' experience of managing Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment, preferably within a food/drink or chemicals industry.

Skills: Strong communicator with good verbal and written skills. Influencing skills at all levels within the organisation and with external safety bodies.

Document management in ensuring appropriate records are maintained in compliance with legal requirements.

Knowledge: Qualified to degree level in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent. Chartered Safety professional (or working towards).

Ability to interpret and apply national health and safety legislation and policy.
