About the role

About you:

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Health and Safety management systems, to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and contractors at Devro Scotland locations. You’ll also provide the on-site technical competence in delivering the health and safety programme and liaise with enforcing authorities. Additionally, you’ll also provide support for the Gendt site in Netherlands.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a generative culture of Health & Safety, enhancing Leading and Lagging Indicators for continuous improvement
  • Stay ahead of Health and Safety legislation, ensuring Devro's compliance through robust systems and procedures
  • Collaborate with managers to drive continuous enhancement of Health & Safety practices, including effective behavioral safety programs and regular audits
  • Champion rigorous risk assessment and accident management systems, identifying hazards and implementing preventive measures
  • Investigate incidents, analyze causes, and develop recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Oversee occupational hygiene programs and collaborate with Occupational Health Service staff
  • Provide comprehensive Health & Safety training, advising on equipment and workplace practices
  • Lead Health & Safety audits and inspections to maintain compliance

Experience:

  • Solid and demonstrable Health & Safety management experience gained in manufacturing, or engineering. Preference for candidates from food/drink, chemicals or related sectors
  • Excel as a communicator with excellent verbal and written abilities
  • Possess influential prowess across all organisational levels and with external safety bodies
  • Ability to maintain impeccable records in alignment with legal mandates.
  • Hold a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
  • Chartered Safety professional or working towards this designation
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying national health and safety regulations and policies
